There was a request for explanation of #6 on the practice review, so
here it is:

#6) The key is that ALL the strong acid's H+'s will tie up anions
(base ions). When HCl is added to the flouride solution, the new H+
ions will react with the free flouride ions and turn them into HF.
1. Count the # of flouride ions in 25.0 mL of solution
2. Subtract the # of H+ ions added
3. Divide the new number by the new volume (30.0 mL)

I am having some problems with the lab, mr. b. we have data that we don't apparently need, like the volume of the flask--or do we? if using the ideal gas law is the way, then why are we trying to find the volume of the H2 gas if we know the volume of the flask.... the answers i have gotten so far don't make any sense... espeacially when the volume of the H2 gas found by using the ideal gas law is greater than the volume of the flask itself. help!

plug-in download trouble

OK. Am pascal to all who dont know yet..I just got told there was some summer Chgemistry HW to be done so am quite busy at the moment..I have signed for the coursecompass, registered the textbook site thing...I cant take taht quiz until I download that plugg in but when I downloaderd it, safari said it couldnt open it because it cant find an application..anyone know what that means? I am using a MAC btw..please do get to me as soon as possible

Well,
If you haven't already figured it out, there are two places where I
will be giving you online assignments. The PH GradeAssist site is
where I will be assigning homework predominantly, and the
CourseCompass site is where I will be giving you miscellaneous
quizzes, tests, etc. can get to GradeAssist from CourseCompass. I
hope you've got it figured out by now, but I'll be sure to indicate
where your assignment is when I give you one. Hope its going well and
I look forward to seeing your progress.

Install the TestGen Plugin

I have a short assignment for you; it involves installing a browser
plugin and then taking a quiz. The quiz is only 5 questions, should
take you about 5 minutes, and if you score above 60% I'll give you a
100%. Not a bad deal.
Here's what you need to do:
1) go to http://wpslive.pearsoncmg.com/cmg_student_testgen_1 and
install the TestGen 7.3 plugin. You MUST have windows 2000, xp or
NT- i think vista will work but its not indicated. In other words,
it won't work if you use windows 98; of course, if you use that you
have bigger problems.

2)restart your browser after the installation, go to the
coursecompass site and find the "Chapter 1 Introductory Quiz". Take
this quiz, and then submit when you're finished.

That's it! This won't take you long, so please do it asap. Thanks!

Well, someone mentioned that there was difficulty finding the
assignments at PH GradeAssist site. I've made a few changes, so
check back and let me know if they appear available now. You might
only see Chp.1 assignment, as you can't complete chp.2 until chp.1 is
finished and the same w/chp.3.

Reading RSS feeds

Since we will be using the blog often this year, it would be very convenient for you to be notified when there is a new post rather than having to go to the blog daily to check. To make this easier, I've set up an RSS Feed with the blog. All you need is an RSS reader or a browser that takes care of it for you, and the knowledge of how to use it. I'd recommend the new version of Safari, firefox, or Internet Explorer 7. All of these will handle RSS very well, but I prefer Safari- its a faster browser than the others but you might have occasional compatibility issues with some multimedia on the websites.

there are lots of RSS readers out there to organize RSS feeds, podcasts, etc. IE 7 has been updated to handle them- i don't use it, but I'm sure it would work fine. It is probably way more secure than IE 6 too. I already posted a link on the blog to simple instructions to track RSS feeds in Firefox. all you have to do is go to feed page and drag the little orange icon to your menu bar- It might give better notification on a pc, but on a mac you would have to actually click on the folder on your bar to see if there were any new posts- and there isn't an indication of which are new. however, you can see all the post titles when you click the folder.

There are MANY RSS readers available now- try some out! You can add limitless feeds of interest (as if anything is cooler than our AP Bio blog) You may download any of a number of other RSS readers; Here are links to a few...

Go to www.coursecompass.com and click the Register button in the Students area.
Enter your new student access code.
Click Yes, look me up and enter your login name and password.
Enter your new course ID (This is briggs78213).
Verify your contact information to complete enrollment.
Write down all this information, including your Access Code and do not lose it. You might need it again later this year.

You should be able to find our chemistry class on there once you're logged in; find your summer work assignment.

You should already be a member of the blog, though I have noticed some of you are moving slowly. Please don't get behind- We keep moving!
